Total Solar Eclipse! Monday, April 8, 2:00 – 4:30 pm

On Monday April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America.  Come and see the eclipse from our beautiful location! This will be our last chance to see a total solar eclipse for the next 20 years. Totality will take place from 3:26 – 3:29 pm.

You are welcome to bring your tent and camp for a night, or the entire weekend. Reserve a campsite at Hipcamp. In April, we’ll still be in winter camping mode. It will be early spring in Vermont, and a variety of weather is possible.  We’re likely to have snow, rain, and/or mud.  If it’s windy, it will feel colder than it is.  Bring warm clothes, layers, a raincoat or snow shell, and sturdy shoes/boots.  Eclipse viewing glasses will be available free of charge (in the breezeway next to the house).

Please plan accordingly, and know that the eclipse might not be visible. We can’t guarantee you’ll be able to see the sun  (but it will get really dark in the middle of the afternoon!).  We CAN provide a beautiful setting, and the opportunity to meet other women, trans and nonbinary folks. We hope you can join us!

March Work Day: Saturday, March 30, 10 am – 2 pm

These events are always fun! This Saturday, we’ll be getting ready for the camping season and the solar eclipse. We’ll be improving the pathways, preparing signs for campsites, hanging strings of lights, and generally sprucing the place up. Drop in anytime and stay for as long as you like. Bring a water bottle, your own snacks & lunch, and work gloves.
RSVP to howlvt@gmail.com. Thanks!!

Many thanks to the volunteers who came out for last month’s work day. You made a difference!  We completed some projects, stacked wood, and had a great time doing it. We can use your help again!  We’ll be stacking MORE wood, hanging lights in the barn, and maybe figuring out how to get a washing machine downstairs.  Also, we’ll be giving tractor lessons… learn to drive a tractor!

Drop in anytime and stay for as long as you like. We’ll share a potluck meal after work, around 2 pm.  Please bring a dish to share if you’d like to join us.  Also bring a water bottle, snacks if you want them, and work gloves.

October Work Day! Sunday October 15, 10 am – 4 pm+

Join us in our beautiful fall surroundings for our monthly work day! We have lots of firewood to stack. You can read more about wood stacking in the articles linked below. There are lots of other projects that YOU can help with. We’ll be here from 10-4 (and probably hanging out afterward), but you don’t need to attand the whole 6 hours. You can drop in for an hour or two, just let us know when you plan to be there.

We rely on volunteers to help do the work that needs to be done each season. Be a part of our growing community of volunteers! Who knows, you may even get inspiration for writing (see last article).

We will enjoy a potluck meal together. Please bring a dish to share. Also bring a water bottle, snacks if you want them, work gloves, and dress in layers. You never know what the weather will be like around here.

RSVP to howlvt@gmail.com. And thanks!!

Welcome Spring! Rebirth… Reopening!

 –  An online event hosted by HOWL  –

The weather is finally warm again, and HOWL Online is pleased to announce its second event, to welcome Spring… Rebirth…Reopening.  Let’s go someplace far, far away, where there is no pandemic.

When & Where: Saturday, April 17, 7-9 PM, at a Zoom near you.

In March 2020, a group of (mostly) women visited Cuba for International Women’s Day, organized by the Cuba-America Friendship Society, a Burlington, Vermont organization. We visited an organization dedicated to lgbtq+ rights, a women artists’ collective, and saw subversive art in the shadow of the seat of government. Learn what you can do now to help a plucky people survive and thrive.

We need a couple of other short presentations about places and spaces far from (or before) quarantine and social distancing. Let’s dream together!  Do you have a tale of your own?  Bring your own stories and pictures too. If you’d like to present, please RSVP with a brief description to howlvt@gmail.com. If you’d like to attend, look for a Zoom meeting invitation which will be sent out to the entire  HOWL mailing list before Thursday, April 15.

 –  An online event hosted by HOWL  –

Saturday, February 13, 2021, 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Contact howlvt@gmail.com for Zoom meeting invitation

It has been nearly a year since the Pandemic began.  Each of us has had to cope with unprecedented changes that have kept us apart from the ones we love.  HOWL is excited to announce a special online event, “Love in the Time of COVID”.  We invite you to share your thoughts and experiences about love and relationships and isolation during your year of Pandemic. How have you found ways to stay connected?  Each participant who signs up to share will have 5 minutes to share a story, song, or other item. Here are some ideas:

  • Tell a story (something funny, creative, and/or reflective)
  • Read a poem
  • Lead a modified “singalong”.  Participants can take turns singing a few lines of your song as you share the lyrics on screen.

RSVP with your first name, email address, and a few words about what you would like to do; there are still spots open on the program.   You are also welcome to attend and simply listen. This event is open to all women, but Zoom attendance is limited to 50, so sign on early to be sure of a spot.

The Women Who Run With the Wolves

Come engage collectively with the wild woman archetype. This weekend workshop will include readings from Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ “The Women Who Run With the Wolves” as we use expressive arts, authentic movement, dream work, and ritual to re-root ourselves with our own inner fire. Held on Women’s Land, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to tap into the wellspring of inner knowing.

This workshop deals with the archetype of wild woman, the format intentionally allows for individuals to identify with, reject, question, and explore what that means for them personally. It is open to women identifying, trans-women, non-binary/non-gender specific. HOWL allows individuals to self-identify. All voices will be honored and held safely. (Stay tuned for a 3rd workshop in Montpelier open to CIS and trans-men who also wish to engage with their anima)

The nitty gritty: HOWL has 3 available bedrooms. One of which can comfortably sleep 2, or cozily 3+. This large room will be prioritized for groups. There is ample camping all over the property, and is highly encouraged, but come prepared for chilly mountain nights! The room reservations are first-come first serve.

This workshop is by donation, and 100% of it will go to Huntington Open Women’s Land, to ensure that there will always be land for women to root and roam freely. Suggested donation is $15 per person per night, sliding scale. HOWL is a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers.

To keep costs low, I would like to make this a potluck style event – bring a big dish to share, and some personal snacks for yourself -pack in/pack out style. Please email Lisa.Scanlon@goddard.edu if you have any questions or cindyfeltch211@gmail.com to make a room reservation.

HOWL will supply wood, campfire site, lovely outhouse and limited water… and s’mores…

You should bring your own equipment and food. Beware the ticks, bring appropriate bug dope and don’t forget your daily tick check. Also, be prepared for a bit of rain — this is Vermont! If there will be a complete rainstorm, our raindate will be August 3-4, a week later.

If camping is not your thing, we may have a limited availability for guests in the house — please call to reserve a room.

Please RSVP to confirm campsite or room, at HOWLVT@GMAIL.COM

Cost: $15-$45 per person, sliding scale. We are a small not-for-profit, and appreciate your generosity!

Hope to see you at HOWL this summer!
